Arizona Detention Research

Welcome

Welcome to Arizona Detention Research, a platform for sharing stories and research about immigrant detention in the state of Arizona.

From 2015 to 2018, graduate students in Arizona State University’s School of Historical, Philosophical, and Religious Studies contributed to States of Incarceration, a national, traveling exhibit featuring local stories of incarceration and immigrant detention throughout the United States. Under the guidance of Dr. Leah Sarat, students researched and curated exhibit content related to the human and economic costs of detention at Eloy, a private, for-profit immigrant detention center.

The pages linked above provide highlights from States of Incarceration programming at Phoenix's Burton Barr Public Library along with interview clips, videos, and other resources on immigrant detention in Arizona.

This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, National Endowment for the Humanities, Whiting Foundation, Open Society Foundations, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the Stowe Fund for Public History at Arizona State University.
